Solid-state study of the host-guest complexes of beta-cyclodextrin and ferrocene thymine conjugates
It has been recently shown that N‐alkylated ferrocene quinoline conjugates exhibited inhibitory effects on selected tumor cell lines. Similar biological activity has been demonstrated by ferrocene thymine conjugates. However, their application is limited, due to the high lipophilicity of these compounds. Therefore, to solve this obstacle inclusion complexes with cyclodextrin have proved to be useful because they allow better solubility in water, and thus better biodistribution and pharmacokinetic properties of some drugs. The formation of inclusion complex of bis-ferrocene thymine conjugates and beta-cyclodextrin was carried out by milling. Host-guest complexation in the solid state was studied and characterized by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray powder diffraction.
