COomparison of the Republic of Croatia with some transition countries and less developed EU countries through efficiency assessing

The process of transition characterizes structural changes throughout the economy. The changing economic structure is reflected in the structure of employment. The paper includes the quantitative aspect and a relationship between employment and output (GDP) of the Republic of Croatia. Croatia is compared with some EU and transitional countries. Although employment is the function of a great number of different factors, it is evident that it is the most closely related to the movement of GDP and it reflects on the productivity of labour. Regression analysis (RA) is used for selection of relevant variables. In addition, data envelopment analysis (DEA) is used to make comparison among countries. DEA is a relatively new technique, which employs linear programming to weight the inputs/outputs and rank the performance of decision making units (DMU) which operate in similar conditions.
