Investigation of corrosion behaviour of AA6060 in seawater
AA6060 alloys are mainly used for structural and architectural application due to their reliable mechanical properties, light weight and good corrosion resistance in neutral media. However, in aggressive marine environment these alloys are prone to localized corrosion such as pitting. The corrosion behaviour and pitting susceptibility of AA6060 was investigate in this work using different electrochemical techniques. All measurements were conducted in freshly sampled natural seawater under two different temperatures (18 ± 0, 5)°C and (30 ± 0, 5)°C, in order to get insight how temperature change affect corrosion. Collected results have shown that with temperature elevation corrosion activity of AA6060 was enhanced. Obtained electrochemical results are in agreement with the microscopic observation of corroded samples.
