Comparative Stability Analysis of Chatter in Grinding Process
Chatter, the self-excited vibration between the grinding wheel and the workpiece is a common problem in the grinding process. Chatter not only limits productivity of grinding but also causes poor surface finish and reduced dimensional accuracy. In this paper, the regenerative model of chatter is investigated. The conventional stability analysis is applied to the one-degree-of-freedom regenerative grinding model. The same problem is solved by using the Poincare Lyapunov theorem. The agreement of results is found in the range of equilibrium points. This range is calculated as the ratio of the chatter frequency and the angular velocity of workpiece.
