Evaluation of effevtiveness of the clubs of treated alcoholics: review of contemporary knowledge
The modern approach of alcoholism treatment recognized several types of post-hospital treatment. The clubs od btreated alc9oholics, founded by professor Hudolin back in 1964, are developed and implementation not only in Croatia but also in many other countries. They are defined as multi-family groups that continuosly wort (through weekly meetings) with the aim of changing the life style od alcoholics and their familiesand treir growth. The basic idea of the clubs of treated alcoholics is to assist and support treated alcoholics and their families in rehabilitation and re-socialization in the format of self-help and mutual assistance group, with guidance from professionals of diferent profilles. One of tje essential features opf clubs is holistic approach to understending alcoholism and maintaning abstinence. The clubs are designed according to principles of the therapeutic community. They function as non- govermental organisations that copperate with each other and are networked localy, regionally and nationally. Despite half a century of tradion and experience in the effeciveness of clubs in the rehabilitation of alcohol addicts and their families, there are not many evinence-based knowledge that would indicate what are specific features of clubs that contribute to the better rehabiloitation ane re- socialization of treated alcoholics. Evaluation of the existing model of the clubs of treated alcoholics is important for improving ttheir work and improving their effectiveness, so the aim of this paper is to analyse the current knowledge of the evaluation of the work of treated alcoholics. Particular attention will be paid to content evaluation- what to measure, how to measure (quantitative, qualitative, mixed method and when to measure (longitudinal research, cross-sectional approach).
