Harmonic Analysis of Line Current of Industrial VSI-Fed Adjustable-Speed Drives

This paper analyses the harmonic emissions of industrial voltage-source-inverter (VSI)-fed adjustable speed drives with a three-phase diode bridge rectifier. Line current distortions of industrial VSI-fed drives with and without a DC choke are compared under varying load. Experimental tests are conducted on three different laboratory test rigs under unbalanced and distorted supply. The harmonic spectrum of the line current, the current waveform distortion, the current THD, and the power factor are analysed under different load conditions. Experimental results show that harmonic currents depend on load conditions in a nonlinear manner.
