Die for Equal Channel Angular Pressing (ECAP) process: Design and Manufacturing

This paper describes equal channel angular pressing process in terms of die design and die manufacturing. Equal Channel Angular Pressing process also known as ECAP is one of the most efficient process to produce high strength, hardness and toughness materials without changing its dimension by refinement of grains. There are some drawbacks in ECAP process like buckling of extruding ram, surface defects and difficulties in extracting the sample from the channel as well. Hence, there were many attempts to improve of ECAP process in terms of die design. This work is concerned with the selection and manufacturing of most suitable option of die for ECAP process. Six different die designs have been compared with respect to functionality, technologically, exploitability and recyclability. The decision is made by using analytical hierarchical process (AHP) method. Finally, the most suitable die design has been manufactured by using different machining operations.
