Augmented-Lagrangian method for finite volume mechanical contact simulations

A new procedure based on AL method is proposed to enforce mechanical contact constraint in the FV simulations. With the contact force decomposition into Lagrangian multiplier and penalisation, targeted penetration and targeted elastic slip can be achieved by adjusting corresponding Lagrangina multiplier, without need to adjust penalty scale. The proposed method is tested on 2D and 3D frictional test cases and results are compared with the results obtained using penalty method. Numerical results show that proposed procedure achieves the targeted penetration for all points in the contact in every time-step if appropriate penalty scale ensuring stable calculation is used.
