EKG screening of patients undergoing dental prosthetic treatment.
EKG computer device for continuous monitoring of lst Einthoven's standard EKG outlet was constructed. Population that needs a dental prosthetic treatment is usually middle-aged or elderly. Diseases of cardiovascular system are recognised as most common in modern population. It seemed beneficial to test population visiting the dental office and become a part of a prevention program for cardiovascular diseases. EKG signal was captured and transferred to a PC device. It was possible to analyse a real-time signal and to record it for later analysis. All 22 patients that visited a Dental Prosthetic Department of Clinical Hospital Dubrava were subjects of this investigation. Mean age was 61, 5. There were 9 pathological EKG findings that were refereed for further medical investigation. Method of EKG screening proved to be simple to use and efficient for diagnosing disturbances in cardiovascular system. The method is non-invasive and inexpensive. Numerous patient flow and periodical controls in dental office suggested that there might be further research about using such device in dentistry for professional general health monitoring.
