Electromagnetic Fields: Environmental Exposure
The use of electricity, the unseen fuel of everyday life, results in the generation of electric and magnetic fields. In the 20th century, occurrence of electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields in the environment due to the tremendous growth of power grids, radio and television stations, radars, base stations, cellular phones, numerous domestic appliances, and appliances at workplaces has significantly increased. However, there is also a continuing public concern associated with the possible adverse health effects due to human exposure to these fields, particularly exposure to high-voltage power lines and radiation from cellular base stations and mobile phones.
