The role of many-body correlations in liquids: simple disorder versus complex disorder
The theory of pair correlations in liquids involves the bridge function, which describes the role of higher order correlations. Usually this function can be neglected or approximated in terms of functional of pair correlation functions. While such recipe may work for simple disorder liquids, such as the canonical Lennard-Jones liquids, we conjecture that complex disorder liquids, such as water, require the bridge function to be incorporate in the pair correlation expression. More specifically, the absence of this function could lead to the impossibility of solving integral equation theories for certain forms of complex disorder, such as those presenting micro-heterogeneity. This conjecture is illustrated through various examples.
