Growth and growth analysis of the tree of heaven, Ailanthus altissima (Mill.) Swingle, in the city of Karlovac, Croatia
Historically, alien plant species have been an important part of prestigious city parks. Today, they are on the list of invasive species and pose a threat to natural habitats. By mapping the distribution of these aliens it is possible to confirm that horticulture is one of the major pathways for their introduction and further spread. Uncontrolled spread was observed along the roads and the suburban areas. During our study, increment analysis of the trees in the city was made. Along with the analysis of the tree of heaven (Ailantus altissima), the increment of oak was also analysed. The conclusion is that the tree of heaven has higher increment, which intensifies its domination in the habitat.
