Analytic philosophy vs. history of philosophy
In the paper tension between analytic philosophy and history of philosophy is recognised where analytic philosophy is understood primarily as ahistorical. It will be argued that analytic tradition becomes seriously philosophically impoverished without historical reflection. The most plausible position seems to be modest version of historicism understood as rational reconstruction (historical interpretation of past philosophers is done in a philosophical way by focusing on arguments and reasons, but having in mind historical context). Miščević’s work on thought experiments in political philosophy is taken as an example of good practice in which historical investigation deepen our philosophical understanding of the problem in question ; reaching understanding is one of the fundamental epistemic goals within analytic tradition (i.e. virtue epistemology).
