Removing barriers to energy efficiency in public buildings: UNDP project experience in Croatia
Croatia was the first country in the EU that had successful project focused on the public buildings and that introduced systematic approach towards the energy efficiency improvement and development of the efficient energy management strategy. Project was coordinated by UNDP (United Nations Development Program) project team in Croatia, in close collaboration with all important public and government institutions in Croatia. Project was successful since it enabled significance energy efficiency savings, created pool of the educated professionals and proved to be an example of the good practice for other countries in the region. Specific main project steps would be elaborated and discussed in detail as well as general field experience, issues and specific barriers that occurred during project realization. Finally, with respect to the gained valuable project experience the future strategies as well as possible directions would be discussed and that are focused on the energy efficiency policies and actions in the case of the public buildings.
