The Famine (and the) Queen: Nostalgia vs. Historical Trauma in ITV's Victoria (2017)
This paper analyses the ways in which the "Faith, Hope and Charity" of ITV's TV series Victoria represents the early years of the Irish Famine. It demonstrates how the adaptation of historical facts within the framework of a biographical TV series about Queen Victoria loses its critical potential primarily because of the wider context in which the TV series was made – contemporary postfeminist media culture in which Victoria as Queen Mother becomes the embodiment of the ideal postfeminist subject.
