Intelligence and Justice

One of the main ambitions of contemporary egalitarians is to compensate those with less adequate natural endowments, which are held to be responsible for a poorer living standard of such persons. Arguably, one of the prominent capacities of that sort, at least in the modern economies, is intelligence. However, the question arises can egalitarians really ask for compensation for the lack of this particular feature given the self-perception of individuals concerning their possession of it. The present research is an attempt to investigate how the most prominent philosophical positions (e.g. Rawls’, Dworkin’s and luck egalitarian) belonging to this camp could or would deal with the issue.
