Detection of the F1 hybrid effect by the test of experimental pulmonary metastases
Cells of a methylcholathrene-induced fibrosarcoma of C57BL mice were injected intomsyngeneic recipients or (C57Bl X CBA T6T6 F1 mice, either subcutaneously or intravenously. When different doses of viable tumurs cells were injected subcutanously, the number of successfuly transplanted tumours was slightly lower in F1 hybrids than in C57BL mice, but the difference was not statisticaly significant. On the other hand, the number of pulmonary metastases, arising after intravenous injection of tumor cells, was statistically smaller (P was smaller of 0, 01 or o, 001) in F1 mice. It is concluded that experimental lung metastases can be used to show the F1 "hbrid effect". In thatrespect lung metastases seem to be a more sensitive test for the detection of the effect than subcutaneously transplanted tumors.
