Is psychopathy a mental illness? Between evolution and norms
Some think that psychopathy is not a mental illness, notably Robert Hare (2013). Nadelhoffer & Sinnott-Armstrong (2013 ) argue that: "Wakefield’s harmful dysfunctional (HD) analysis and the objective harm view (OH) of Gert & Culver 2004 are the two most plausible accounts of the notion of mental illness." Moreover, they maintain that both theories imply that psychopathy should be regarded as a mental illness. We respond that Nadelhoffer & Sinnott- Armstrong do not offer compelling evidence for their conclusion.
