Acute graft-versus-host reaction in mice 4. The onset of cell-mediated immunity
Lethally irradiated CBA mice were injected with 10000000 lymph node cells from C57BL donors. The spleen of CBA recipients (containing injected C57BK cells)mwas taken at sn interval of 48 to 129 hours after the injection of C57 BL cells. Spleen cell suspension was prepared and injected into the footpad of untreated CBA mice. A cell-mediated type immune reaction (delayed hypersensitivity) developed in the injected footpad, if the spleens were harvestated from CBA mice at 56 hours or later after the injection of C57BL lymph node cells. The intensity of the reaction of the reaction steadily increased until the end of the observation oeriod (120 hours). We concluded that C57BL lymph node cells injected into lethally irradiation CBA recipients initiated a cell-mediated type ofvimmune reaction against their host by the third day after they had been injected.
