Učenje o praksi u praksi

The traditional, predominantly ex-cathedra teaching has long been considered unsustainable in contemporary practice of higher education, and education without contact with practice is superficial, lifeless and formal. The paper examines an example of the modernization of the syllabus of the elective course Early Education Research taught at the 1st year of graduate studies of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split. The course is implemented in cooperation with a private kindergarten in Split, i.e. it is mostly implemented as practice at the institutions of early and pre-school education. Kindergartens are located in several local communities (town, suburban settlements) and operate in a variety of spatial-material and human resources, which enables students to gain a wider insight into the real practice of early and preschool education. The course is implemented at several levels: 1. Monitoring and documenting the pedagogical process (video footage, protocols for monitoring children’s socialemotional competences ) ; 2. Reflection of kindergarten teachers and students immediately after the observed practice ; 3. Cooperation between students and kindergarten teachers in the preparation of activities for children and parents ; 4. Students’ active participation in the implementation of activities for children and parents in kindergartens at the "Mathematics Evening" ; 5. Group analysis of video footage from various kindergartens and discussion between students and kindergarten teachers ; 6. Student discussion on the experienced / learned (linking theory and practice) at the Faculty with professors facilitating the process. Considering the small sample of students (7) and kindergarten teachers (23), a qualitative methodology was used in the research. The obtained results confirm students' satisfaction with course implementation, acquired competences, understanding of pedagogical practice and linking theory and practice.
