Arhitektura franjevačkih crkava u Istri (Puli, Poreču i Pazinu) i na otocima Kvarnerskog zaljeva (Krku, Cresu, Rabu i Pagu) do kraja 16. stoljeća/The Architecture of Franciscan Churches in Istria (Pula, Poreč and Pazin) and the Kvarner Bay Islands (Krk, Cres, Rab and Pag) up to the End of the Sixteenth Century, Monografije i katalozi 32 – Arheološki muzej Istre

Radi se o znanstvenoj monografiji posvećenoj arhitekturi franjevačkih crkava u Istri i na otocima Kvarnerskog zaljeva do kraja 16. stoljeća u kojoj su na hrvatskom i engleskom jeziku predstavljeni rezultati autorovog dugogodišnjeg rada na ovoj izuzetnoj temi. Sustavno je obrađeno 11 franjevačkih crkava u Puli, Poreču, Pazinu, Krku, Cresu, Rabu i Pagu, koje su smještene u povijesno-prostorni okvir, protumačeno je oblikovanje franjevačke arhitekture u svjetlu razvoja franjevačkog reda, s osvrtom na prethodnu najvažniju literaturu o istraživanjima franjevačkih crkava na proučavanom području. Potom je napravljena arhitektonska i tipološka interpretacija franjevačkih crkava, detaljno su analizirani i predstavljeni elementi arhitekture, te su obrađeni ishodište, razvoj i kontinuitet te franjevačke arhitekture. Nakon zaključnih razmatranja detaljan je popis korištene literature i u prilogu katalog tipološki klasificiranih franjevačkih crkava na obrađivanom području. Provedenim analizama, raspravom o podrijetlu, prikazom razvoja i kontinuiteta franjevačkih crkava u Istri i na otocima Kvarnerskog zaljeva, od sredine 13. do kraja 16. stoljeća, ukazana su zajednička obilježja i regionalne odlike navedenih crkava, čime je pojašnjena njihova uloga i značenje u prostoru, te njihova važnost u sklopu nacionalne sakralne arhitektonske baštine. Riječ je o knjizi koja je nastala temeljem autorove prerade i dopune već objavljenih znanstvenih tekstova o toj temi u časopisu “Histria archaeologica”. Kako do sada na hrvatskom jeziku nije bila objavljena cjelovita sustavna obrada franjevačkih crkava, bilo je važno i svrhovito objedinjavanje cjelovitog korpusa istraživanja franjevačkih crkava u Istri i na otocima Kvarnerskog zaljeva u zasebnoj monografiji. Ova knjiga ima višestruku kulturnu vrijednost i namijenjena je u prvom redu znanstvenicima, istraživačima i studentima, ali će zasigurno naći svoju publiku i kod svih zaljubljenika u spomeničku baštinu. / It is monograph devoted to the architecture of the Franciscan churches erected in Istria and on the Kvarner Bay islands through to the close of the sixteenth century. This Croatian/English tome showcases the fruits of the author’s many years of work on this remarkable topic. The author offers a systematic treatment of eleven Franciscan churches in Pula, Poreč, Pazin, Krk, Cres, Rab and Pag, describing their historical and spatial points of reference, expounding on the shaping of Franciscan architecture as a ref lection of the development of the Franciscan order, and reviewing the existing literature on studies of Franciscan churches in this region. He also provides an architectural and typological interpretation of these Franciscan churches with a detailed study and presentation of the architectural elements, their origins, development and continuity. The book closes with the author’s conclusions, a detailed list of the cited literature and a catalogue of the typologically classified Franciscan churches in the region of interest. The analyses and the discussion of the origins, development and continuity of the Franciscan churches built in Istria and on the Kvarner Bay islands from the mid-thirteenth to the late sixteenth century point to the shared attributes and regional characteristics of these churches, clarifying their role and significance in their spatial setting, and their importance and significance within the sphere of our national sacral architectural heritage. This book is based on author’s scientific papers on the topic, here amended and supplemented, previously published in the Histria archaeologica journal. As there has been no previously published integral and systematic Croatian language treatment of these Franciscan churches we deemed it both important and beneficial to bring this comprehensive body of study on Franciscan churches in Istria and on the Kvarner Bay islands together in a monograph. This book is culturally valuable in many ways and is targeted principally at the academic community, researchers and students, but will certainly also find a readership among all those imbued with enthusiasm for our monumental heritage.
