The influence of the cyclic loading mode on the fatigue life of surface hardened steel

The paper analyses the influence of the blast surface hardening of steel sheet grade RSt.37-2 on the fatigue life under cyclic tension and bending loadings. In case of the zero-tension cycle, the blasted sheet showed a lower fatigue life than the basic sheet and in case of the symmetric bending cycle it was opposite. The paper presents particular fatigue characteristics of both basic and blasted materials under the above – mentioned cyclic loading modes, as well as views of the causes of differences of these characteristics. The results can be applied int he technical practice.
