Cross-correlation of serum Chromogranin A, %F-PSA and bone scans in prostate cancer diagnosis.
In 211 newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients CgA values, %FPSA recordings and bone scan data were obtained as well as all routine data. In 20 pts false negative %FPSA was assessed and in 18 of these pts (90%) elevated CgA was found. Raised CgA is a risk factor for tumor dissemination and indeed in 43, 9% of these subjects bone lesions were determined. Biological differences of PSA and CgA markers were determined according to the negative correlation between their TPS elevation and the magnitude of the CgA test.
