Effect of low dose gamma radiation upon gamma-glutamyl-transpeptidase activity in blood plasma of chickens
An attempt was made to determine the effect of irradiation of eggs by low dose ionizing radiation before incubation upon gamma-glutamyl-transpeptidase (GGT) activity in the blood plasma of chickens hatched from irradiated eggs. The eggs of havy breeding chickens were irradiated by dose 0, 15 Gy gamma radiation (Co-60)before incubation. Along with the chickens which were hatched from irradiated eggs, there was a control group of chickens hatched from non-irradiated eggs. All other conditions were the same for both groups. After hatching, blood samples were taken from the ving vein on days 1, 3, 7, 10, 20, 30 and 42. The GGT activity in the blood plasma was determined spectrophotometrically by using Boehringer Mannheim GmbH optimized kit. The activity of investigated enzyme was significantly decreased in the blood plasma of chickens hatched from irradiated eggs on days 1, 30 and 42, and increased od days 5 and 7. Obtained results indicate that low-dose of gamma radiation ahs effects upon the processes of protein metabolism in the chickens hatched from eggs irradiated before incubation.
