Attitudes of the speakers of the Fiuman dialect towards its usage

El fiuman is an idiom peculiar to the city of Rijeka. It is a dialect, a minority language that is facing similar challenges as many other minority languages nowadays. The problems are revolving around its maintenance. By means of semi-structured interviews, the researcher seeks information directly from the active speakers of this particular idiom. Their opinions regarding the usage and status of the Fiuman dialect, alongside other relevant qualitative and quantitative research in the field, could help crystallize what the speaking trends of the population who uses the dialect are. A thorough analysis of the status, vitality and opinions regarding the dialect is the first step to undertake before developing programmes and policies for its future maintenance. This research, alongside other works in the field of sociolinguistics, tries to provide a more in-depth insight in the current state, vitality and possible future of the Fiuman dialect and minority languages in general.
