Inclusive Educational Policy and the Democratic Context of Educational Leadership and Management
This chapter analyses the democratic context of educational leadership and management. Students should be educated according to civic values, and by considering human and children’s rights, and are expected to live in a multicultural world, to respect diversity and tolerance and to participate in the democratic development of their societies. School management is in itself, directly or indirectly, an educational process. Democratic school management should therefore include both aspects of democratisation: education for democracy and democratic education. We will therefore analyse how educational leadership and management can and should follow democratic processes and procedures, while retaining a level of hierarchy and management authority. Consideration is also given to how the democratic context of educational leadership and management serves education for democracy and democratic education.
