A Lagrangian finite difference method for sloshing: simulations and comparison with experiments
This paper introduces a meshless CFD method for simulating incompressible flows and estimating hydrodynamic loads during violent fluid– structure impacts. The method is Lagrangian, conservative and based on second–order accurate finite differences. It is shown that the method intrinsically handles violent advection of fluid with a complex free surface. The validation of the method is performed by simulating five sloshing experiments and comparing the kinematics of the flow and hydrodynamic loads during impacts in the moving rectangular and LNG–carrier types of semi– filled tanks.
