Damage control concept – croatian reality.

Damage control is concept in surgery that represents new approaches that treat patients with severe injuries. The triad of death in trauma, hypothermia, acidosis and coagulopathy should be tackled as soon as possible by initial laparotomy, correction of physiological settings and finally definitive repair of all injuries in a second operation. The concept needs a dedicated team effort with careful patient selection for achieving the optimal results. Definitive control and repair may be accomplished in the immediate treatment but often putting patient in risk that can be avoided by damage control surgery.
