Croatian Energy Market and Liberalization (Actual Status and Legal Framework)
Strategic repositioning of oil and gas industry in Croatia has been confronted with a great challenge. It has to be done both due to the market and to the increasing energy demand as well as to the oil and gas industry itself. Instead of a protected market we have been faced with a liberalized one dominated by a strong competition. Thus, energy strategy of Croatia represents an extremely important and responsible obligation of the new government. Energy sector expect the known market and economy conditions equal to those of our competitors. These conditions are to be created by the law and regulations based on the strategy. After that, energy sector can develop its own strategy and make sure that this strategy is feasible. Development, as a materialization of strategy supported by the previously mentioned known business conditions and state strategy with conditions characteristically of energy supply, high investments, long periods of construction, exploitation and pay-off, shall provide measurable and, thus, controlled risks.
