Mechanochemical synthesis of metal amidoboranes
Metal amidoboranes (MAB) are very prominent materials for hydrogen storage due to their high hydrogen storage capacity. Their synthesis by mechanical ball milling [1, 2] is based on reaction between ammonia borane (NH3BH3) and metal hydrides (MH). Usually, only hydrogen and MABs are generated as products. In addition to single-metal amidoboranes, such as NaNH2BH3 and LiNH2BH3, in the recent years a number of novel systems with alkaline and alkaline earth metals are reported. Particularly interesting are mixed metal amidoboranes, consisting of two different metals coordinated with several NH2BH3-anions, which show improved properties with respect of hydrogen storage. Here we report several examples, prepared and characterised by our group. This work was supported by the Croatian Science Foundation under the project ”New Materials for Energy Storage” in the total amount of 2M HRK.
