Differences in Assessment of Visual Skills among Pupils with Regard to Artwork - Estimation of Giftedness

The aim of this article is to analyze case studies of children`s artworks (first, second and the third grade elementary school pupils in Croatia) and to determine which characteristics of artistic expression are typical of artistically gifted pupils compared to the theoretical knowledge (Szekely list). Ten children`s artistic works have been studied for this survey to recognize pupils who are artistically gifted. Optimal development of gifted children is conditioned by quality teaching, good assessment of children`s abilities, along with adequate cooperation among schools, parents and pupils. In order to identify artistic giftedness in children`s artworks, we carried out this research, being aware of the extraordinary importance of teacher`s and parent`s sensitivity to the recognition of the characteristics of artistic giftedness in children`s artworks.
