Vaskularna flora poučne staze "Okićnica" (Park prirode Žumberak-Samoborsko gorje)

Okićnica educational trail was explored during 2018, by doing vascular flora inventory and mapping. The trail is situated in Žumberak - Samoborsko gorje Nature Park, beneath the old town of Okić which is at an elevation of 495 metres. The nature park is located in the North-Western part of Croatia, 30 km Southwest from Zagreb. It includes the Southern part of Žumberak Mountains and Samobor Mountains and it spreads over 333 km². The area was mapped as round path and coordinates for species from Orchidaceae family were noted separately. The trail which is 2.5 km long is surrounded by forest and, to a smaller extent, grassland habitats. There were altogether 287 taxa found, among which the largest in number were Fabaceae, Asteraceae and Rosaceae families. Flora is dominated by plants of Eurasian (39.02 %) and Central European (13.94%) floral element. The most common life forms are hemicryptophytes (53%), phanerophytes (16%) and geophytes (16%). Out of all noted species, nine are invasive, six of which belong to Astraceae family. There were also two endemic and ten strictly protected species found. There were also sixteen recordedspecies which are included in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species ; five are listed as Near Threatened, six as Vulnerable and five as Least Concern. This research showed that flora composition of Okićnica is rich with diverse and very interesting taxa, many of which are strictly protected by law. It also showed that South-Western part of Žumberak-Samoborsko gorje Nature Park is a valuable area of North-Western Croatia in terms of vascular flora diversity, and this research contributes to the knowledge of biodiversity of Croatia.
