Abdominal aortic aneurysm mimicking L2–L3 disc herniation
This case emphasizes the importance of careful history taking, physical and neurological examination, and imaging in elderly patients with symptoms of a prolapsed intervertebral disc and/or femoral or sciatic neuropathies. Although degenerative disc disease is the most common cause, other etiologies must be taken into consideration, as some of them may be perilous. As this case demonstrates, an infrequent entity, such as abdominal aneurysm can present with a common symptom, such as back pain and radiculopathy, however, with the risk of hazardous consequences.
