SUSCEPTIBILITY OF OLIVE CULTIVARS TO FRUIT GENERATION OF OLIVE MOTH PRAYS OLEAE BERN. ( LEPIDOPTERA, HYPONOMEUTIDAE) ATTACK IN REGIONE OF DALMACIJA, REPUBLIC OF CROATIA
Olive moth, Prays oleae Bern. (Lepidoptera, Hyponomeutidae), presents continously threath for olive farming on almost all olive growing areas in Republic of Croatia. Chemical control by using cover sprayings is mostly used method of control. Effects of using this method of control are usualy destroying of natural balance. However, the yeald could be decreased to half of total during the favourable years. Generaly it can be calculated that aproximatly 20 % of yeald is lost every year and that fact was the main reason to investigate the susceptibility of different olive cultivars to attack of carphophag generation of olive moth. The observations were taken for three years ( 1991, 1992 and 1993.) in collection and parrent olive orchard in area of Kaštela with total number of 27 domestic and introduced cultivars. Fruit sampling was during the third decade of June, after oviposition period. Results in first year with great yeald showed that between domestic cultivars susceptibile were: Lastovka (22%), Oblica ( 14%), Levantinka and Drobnica (2%). Between introduced cultivars the highest infestation was on Grignaol (32%), Sigoise (18%) and Frantoio (12%). More significant cultivars showed less susceptibility as follows: Leccino (8%), Picholino (7%), Ascolana tenera (4%) etc. Results in second year showed much higher infestation, probably caused with lower yeald as follows: Lastovka (37%), Levantinka ( 36%), Oblica (35%), and between introduced cultivars Sigoise (64%), Picholino ( 63%), St. Catarina ( 60%), Leccino (38%), Pendolino ( 25%) etc. Observation during the third year with low yeald showed low infestation ratio as follows: Lastovka ( 5%), Oblica (2%), Levantinka (1%) ; Ascolana tenera (18%), St. Catarina and Pendolino (5%) and lower infestation was on Leccino (2%). During the three years of observations, relation between percentage of fruit infestation and fruit dimensions ( from 5, 1 / 4, 1 mm to 12, 6/ 7, 5 mm ) were measured.
