Design of a Three-Phase Voltage Calibrator
This paper describes the design of a three-phase calibrator, i.e. a voltage signal generator. The calibrator core is an IGBT converter with a low-pass RLC filter at the output that attenuates voltage and current higher harmonics. A processor that includes field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology enables very high speeds of digital signal processing. Speeds that FPGA processor achieves due to parallel architecture are in the nanosecond range. Implemented algorithms are used to generate sinusoidal pulse width modulated (SPWM) signals to control a three-phase IGBT bridge. Voltage amplitudes and phase angles are controlled to compensate nonlinear system's components, temperature changes, voltage drops on parasitic components, etc. Experimental results show great potential of the proposed approach for calibrator design for various electrical measuring instruments.
