Visual Literacy: Modes and Media
When we question the traditional notion of what constitutes a text, some authors claim that image is text. In this respect the analytical approach based on social semiotics, and the works of Kress and van Leeuwen (1996), Burn (2014) and Burn and Parker (2003) need to be taken in consideration. This calls for a multimodal approach to text analysis which is applicable to media communicative narrative. The aim of this paper is to discuss Burn’s multimodal theory of kineikonic analysis (2014, 5-8) which ascribes the meaning of making of film to the transcription of modes.
